5Great system!
By Jane E. Phillips
We purchased this system a couple of months ago for our motorhome. We just got home from a trip and loved it! Shipping was very fast. I broke a little piece off the monitor stand and they shipped a new one out the same day at no charge. Very nice people. Very easy to install. I installed the wiring under the motorhome while my husband installed the camera and hooked up the power supply. Our rearview mirror inside the motorhome is useless so we intalled the monitor above the mirror and leave the camera on the whole time we are travelling and use it as a rearview mirror. Now we can see our towed vehicle and all the traffic behind us. It eliminates all blind spots. It is just awesome! We feel much more confident now travelling with this camera/monitor system. It works great at night too. We highly recommend this system.

5Great product - could use some improvement though
By Dave from Tacoma
I just installed the Rear View Camera system in my 2003 Ford E350 "box van" as abackup camera, and I have to say the construction of the camera is SOLID. VERYheavy-duty build quality that looks like it will last. Performance is also verygood - in all but the sunniest of conditions, where it's a little washed out. Ihave the monitor mounted on the windshield right where the rear-view mirrorwould be installed (as my van has no mirror - no rear window!).Now for the "cons":1. The connector at the end of the camera wire is quite large. In my case, thecamera is mounted to a 1/8" stainless steel frame at the top/rear of the truck. The camera connector calls for a 5/8" or larger hole to be drilled (larger ifyou wish to use the included rubber grommet). That is fine if drilling a thin-skincamper side. But 1/8" stainless is another matter altogether! I had tobuy a $20 5/8" bit, and it took 6 smaller holes to be drilled first before thelarge bit would finish the cut. This single hole took 30 minutes in all toaccomplish. At even at that, it still wasn't big enough for the grommet, whichI abandoned and used caulk instead - I would have had to buy a larger bit tomake the 1" grommet fit. All of this could have been avoided if the connectorwere smaller or better still, be just pig-tails to a connector block.2. The way the camera and sun shield go together is just silly. It takes 3 arms, and 19 fingers to line up all the holes and 6 screws. I had to do this installation9 feet up a ladder! It ended up that I decided to modify the mount slightly - Isimply used a single screw (they are tiny - 4/40 or smaller, 3/16" long!) on eachside of the camera body first - then set the angle. Then I drilled out the centerhole of the sun-shield cover so it would go OVER the already-installed camera mountscrews - this way I could mount and aim the camera FIRST, then put on the sun shield. The way it comes you have to do the mount, the camera, and the sun shield ALL AT THESAME TIME. This means lining up the shield center hole, the mount center hole, andthe center screw hole of the camera all at once, before inserting a screw not muchbigger than a large grain of rice... no small feat 9 feet up a ladder on the backof my truck!3. Because the sun shield/camera mating only has "fixed" screw locations, you arelimited in the exact aiming to one of 6 fixed positions. A much better solution wouldhave been to have the mount allow itself to be tightened into ANY angle position. Ihad to settle for a compromise that allows me to see the extended truck bumper, butis a lower angle than I would have preferred.4. The manual is VERY spartan. It was no biggie for me or anyone used to putting thingstogether - but I can see where someone is going to have a tough time figuring thingsout - the book doesn't really explain hardly anything as far as actual installation goes. But other than that, it's a fantastic product - I just ordered 2 more cameras for it - oneto go inside the truck "cube box" to keep an eye on things inside, and the 3rd to pointmore directly backwards to create something closer to a true "rear view mirror" view thanthe "backup view" of the first camera, which I need to see my rear bumper when backing toa loading dock.

3Quality a mixed bag
By PYarnall
I hooked up everything out of the box to test it. Everything was functional. I did a trial setup on my 5th wheel before starting the permanent installation. I was completely blind when backing this rig up previously, and this system will take care of that basic issue, however, keep your expectations of the image quality on the screen to modest levels. HD it is NOT. A coffee cup laying on its side on the ground appears as a white blob. Bigger objects, especially the ones I don't want to back into, resolve well enough. I suspect the camera is the culprit. Also, the colors are pretty washed out. In very bright conditions it is nearly black and white. Others have noted this. Not a big deal to me, but overall the screen image is only functional and frankly, rather disappointing. I have not seen any $600 high end systems to compare, but I did not want to spend that much. As always you get what you pay for.The camera housing is solid and appears tight. There are four screws for adjusting and holding camera and shade angles. One of the screws on my unit was cross threaded. I can fix it, though most folks would probably need to send the camera back for a replacement. My other beef is that the cab and camera cables come "ready to use" with the bulkhead style weather proof fittings already soldered on. Unless you are willing to tape the cable to the outside of your rig you are going to have to cut off the big fittings so you can feed the cables through small holes and along framework, etc., then re-solder the fittings back on once the cables are routed. The fittings themselves are Amphenol style knockoffs at a tenth of the quality, but again, functional. Time will tell how well they stand up to water and weather.I am an engineer, have the tools, and I am fussy. In my case, properly routing the cables (out of sight) has been a very time consuming process, something I anticipated. Just keep in mind that while hooking the system up is easy... getting it properly installed may be more work than you expected.
