4Decent Unit for the money.
By S. Parker
I installed this into a 2004 Ford F150 Lariat over 2 weeks to ago. I like to go with JVC products for the simple reason being, they may not be the absolute best product, but, you get a lot of bang for the buck. Here is a quick rundown of the hits and misses. The Hits:The auto dimming feature is nice! Swipe your hand near the face and it lights back up. You can customize the background screen as well as the screen colors. It is blue in the picture on this site, but, you can change it to whatever color you want. The hands free/bluetooth feature works great. I do recommend mounting the microphone on your visor so it will be closer to your mouth and give better outbound audio. My voice command did not work until I moved it to the visor ( iPhone 4 ). If you have a Verizon or Sprint iPhone, you will want to update it as soon as it is installed. Their is a bluetooth patch that was released for CDMA iPhones to help them obtain better BT connectivity. You will obviously need the adaptor for the iPhone. It has a nice parametric EQ with pre-set sounds as well as slots for user made sounds. Each field of the radio has its own EQ, so just setting up the EQ on the radio does not change it for the CD or iPhone/iPod or USB, etc. You need to tweak the EQ on each source. I like this feature. Sound quality is great. The dual zone feature is great. I have 2 screens mounted in the rear headrests. Bought a USB splitter and ran it to both screens and the kids plug their headphones into the screens. Removable faceplate with carrying pouch. Great idea.I have near 100% functionality using the SwiJack interface for my steering wheel controls. The only thing it does not do is skip songs on the CD. It does on my iPhone, however, just not CD's. My steering wheel controls are as follows: Vol UP, Vol Down, Source, Skip to next Song/change station. The touch screen works flawlessly. The misses: This is on oversized Double Din. I tried Metra and Scosche mounts and it was too big for both of them. I had to use a Dremel to cut the opening out to make it fit. This means that the exposed part of the mounting bracket now looks like crap. A dremel doesnt really cut plastic, it melts it away. However, this stereo was not big enough to mount in the factory spot without a bracket. The Motion X GPS works well.......but, only when it works. To clarify, if you do not have cell phone signal, it is completely useless. I expected this when I bought it. I would like to see JVC offer an add on, stand alone unit for it. I would not look forward to it as there does not appear to be revisions in the inputs for this feature. The iPhone integration is a great idea and works well for the most part. The only hiccup I have run into is when I have a playlist in random mode and it wants to play the same 5-6 songs out of 100+ songs over and over when I use the skip feature on my steering wheel controls. CD read and loadup time is a little slow....around 10-15 seconds. No big deal, but, its there. This is a nice unit. Other than the mounting issue, the other things are minor concerns and shouldn't sway you.

4Very good receiver and reversible installation in a 2002 Camry
By birdietwin
Replaced a Kenwood DNX5120 which turned out to be a very disappointing XM radio (the tuner failed and Kenwood discontinued support) in a 2002 Toyota Camry SE. This car came with a factory JBL stereo and I connected this receiver to the JBL amp so that I could use the factory speakers (more later). The new JVC KW-AV70BT receiver is configured with the SiriusXM SXV200v1 tuner and KS-U30 iPhone adapter cable. I used the Metra 95-8203 installation kit. Since I had previously installed an aftermarket receiver, I already had the Toyota Receiver Wiring Harness that I had bought from Crutchfield. It's important to note that this harness includes the four RCA jacks used to connect the factory JBL amplifier to the new receiver. You CANNOT connect the factory speakers directly to this receiver. The ohm rating of the factory speakers is too low for this receiver. You will want to have a nylon trim removal tool. Use the tool to pry the A/C control panel from the lower corners. It will pop out from the bottom. Disconnect the light and control connectors. Pop out the bottom edge of the radio trim panel then rock it gently to pop out the top and disconnect the connector. Remove the four 10mm bolts to remove the radio. Disconnect the cables. Don't cut anything!Connect the wiring harness adapter to the new radio. This is the only splicing that is required. The connection instructions come with the harness. There is a ground wire on factory harness, so just splice the ground on radio to the ground wire on the harness.Remove and set aside the trim plate on the receiver; you won't need it. Remove the mount brackets from the old radio and install them along with the Metra trim. Install the KS-U30 cable if you need it. Route the SiriusXM antenna. Since it is magnetic, I placed it on a metal plate adhered to the front of the dash. The SXV200v1 tuner can be dropped into the space below the new receiver. The microphone can be adhered to the steering wheel column and the wire can be routed though space between the column and the dash.Make sure the car key is in the off position. Position the receiver so that you can make all of the connections and slide the radio into the dash. I routed the iPhone cable through a seam I found at the top/back of the console. It was a bit difficult but no cuts were required in the trim.Turn the key to power on the radio. Perform all radio checks and update the firmware if necessary before re-installing the trim. I suggest loosely installing the radio mount bolts and then the radio trim (don't forget the connector). The Metra trim is a tight fit but looks factory once aligned. Once the radio trim is popped into place and the Metra trim is adjusted, tighten the radio mount bolts. Reconnect the A/C controls and pop the panel back into place.Marvel at your factory looking installation. Note this installation is completely reversible since you made no cuts in trim or wiring harness. Pat yourself on the back. The receiver and bluetooth functions very well. It powers on very quickly and the touch screen is responsive. The SirusXM reception is great even with the antenna located on the dash. The main issue I have with this receiver so far is with the iPhone integration. This is why I gave it a four out of five star rating. If you use an iPhone feature, it seems to supersede other functions of the receiver. For instance if you use MotionX GPS Drive for navigation, you cannot listen to SiriusXM. You can listen to music on the phone, or MOG on the phone; not a bad alternative but it just seems to be an odd design choice. I hope to find a workaround or JVC will provide a firmware update to fix it. The touch screen with GPS Drive navigation is limited to zoom in or out. Anything else requires you to handle the phone... which can be clumsy. I have not found a good mounting option for the iPhone on the Camry. Given the limited length of the KS-U30 cable, a mount would have to located very near the radio. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

5So far so good
By Roland
I am a firm believer in reading comments after a news article and reviews for the products I'm about to purchase. Though I don't believe in all the comments I read, I do believe in the reviews, and the reviews for this product were spot on. Lots and lots of extras at a nice price. I love that the screen adjusts upward in small increments so that it is easier to view, that the screen removes, it sounds excellent, Bluetooth works great, DVD plays excellent, etc etc. For a little over $300, how can one go wrong? I paid more than that for my crappy Car Toys stereo 3 years ago... and by the way, JVC is made by Kenwood.
