    5Not evolution, REVOLUTION!
    By Devestator
I have been using Alpine decks for over 2 decades. I have always been a happy Alpine customer until my experiences with the IVA-205. Till then, they made good sounding lower end decks, and amazing sounding higher end decks with lots of processing. When they got into the integrated video/bluetooth/nav head units, they had problems. Most Alpine-philes know this. The IVA-205 had the separate/removable internal nav unit. This caused unreliability issues with the nav (blank screen for nav, basically the nav unit could not effectively communicate with the head unit). It almost made me purchase my first non-Alpine head unit in over 2 decades. Then I heard about the new INE line from Alpine. Waited till a local shop had one on the show board, and was blown away.Visual Interface:Alpine visual user interface looked dated when it came out. When Pioneer, Kenwood, etc were pumping out sexy user interfaces with sexy splashes and visuals, alpine was still in the 90's. However, the INE line is totally revamped, and you would never think that this would be the next evolution after the INA-W910, which was their flagship until recently. It is way beyond that. Atleast 2-3 generations ahead in terms of visual user interface. Slick, smooth, high resolution, icons look fantastic, nav screen looks amazing.Speed:Alpine has always had some of the fastest start up times, and continues. I like Kenwood product, but man do their units take forever. Not the biggest deal, but if you have a backup camera you like to you, I bet lag on the top end DNX line from Kenwood would frustrate to no end. Most importantly, I hate lag time to input, i.e. physical or virtual button pressing. I hate pressing buttons only for the head unit to respond 2-3 seconds later. That's bullshit considering how much processing is in most people's pockets in the form of their cell phones. So you'll be glad to know the INE-S920HD responds very quickly, and only ever lags slightly when entering letters in searches where it is working in the background to reduce the options of letters to input as your entering say a street name. Basically, noticeably much more processing than the INA-W910 generation.Media Sources:Basically supports what everyone uses. Vid/audio through USB memory stick, iPod, iPhone, CD, Pandora, bluetooth media, HD and satellite radio ready. The only additional component you would need that doesn't come with it from the list I just made is the iPod that requires a cable. The previous gen INA-W910 came with the iPod cable, but not the USB cable. Says a lot about how ubiquitous USB media has become. You can tag stuff on Pandora, to make it easy to buy/download off iTunes.Sound:Classic super clean, full, tactile sound. Lots of processing like other high end Alpine. Crossovers, parametric EQ, time correction, phasing, etc.Bluetooth hands free:Comes with a separate mic, with a long cord. Works very well even in my convertible with the top down. Better than even some high end Plantronics bluetooth head sets (I could hear callers, they couldn't hear me).Navigation:Comes with a GPS antenna. Very quick to fix position, newest maps and POIs since it's a brand new unit, and a tonne of features like the typical calculating fuel used, warning you if you're speeding beyond a certain percentage, or speed, but also has all kinds of warning systems, i.e. you can load up a bunch of known speed camera locations, and it can warn you with audio, or just visual or both, etc. Fast to reroute, reads out names of streets, many voices to choose from, can have just a warning "bung" and no voice, while it brings up the next manouvre, or no noise at all.Interesting:The small button panel is detachable . . . like a throw back to old days of detachable faceplates for security.Alpine made some pretty mediocre (some strong points, but some serious weak ones too) stuff for a while throughout the IVA generation. But they definitely went above and beyond with this generation, and prices are reasonable as well.

    4Alpine INE-S920HD - S L U G G I S H -
    By BobbyG/PS
Did a home install in my FJ Cruiser, not exactly for a novice but resources on the internet to get everything going such as connecting the Toyota wiring to the Alpine harness. In my vehicle, a 2 day job. I'm a perfectionist and to even get the unit to fit exactly right and adjust the Toyota brackets took hours. Need good tools to get the job done. Mine looks like a factory install with the Metra single DIN face plate kit which I had to cut and glue. I'm used to my Android phone with voice recognition but I'm pushing buttons again going down the road. 4 out of 5 stars with voice recognition on the wishlist.Pros: solid unit, all components are of good quality, does everything as advertised.Cons: slow processor, no crisp screen changes, it's sluggish but acceptable for the price.

    By oi oi
i think this is probably the fastest head unit out there right now after seeing other units like pioneer and kenwood i had to go with this unit alpine has really revamped the nav part of it as well so far i cant even say anything bad about it the way it splits your music and nav is completely awesome the other guy who wrote the last review really nailed it it was really helpful in my decision do it

    2What a piece of junnk
    By stormfront
DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF GARBAGE. I have a bad buzzing in my back right speaker after it was installed by a pro. They can't explain it other than the unit is defective. The clock on the radio can't be set properly, the USB won't recognize any of the 6 difference devices I have plugged into it. Now I am out the cost of the unit, the 111.00 dollar shipping charge (are you kidding me) and the cost of the professional install. The manual is a joke. It's incomplete, has Zero contact info for customer service, is in bad broken English. Do yourself a favor and learn from my pain. Koolertron is a joke and should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves. I am really trusting Amazon's return policy here cause I'm gonna be even more pissed than I am now if I don't get every penny of my money back.

2Flicker with a Perfect fit, Aftermarket stereo with LOTS of GLINCHES!!!
    By Mark Ferguson
Beautiful unit for your vehicle but there's some flickering on the screen in the GPS mode. Looks great and fits perfect in my 2008 GMC Sierra, however i WOULD NOT reccemend anyone to purchase this piece of garbage. I had this unit installed into my 2008 GMC SIERRA it cost me $100.00. They told me they can not guarantee any aftermarket radios would work properly and if i encountered any problems i would have to have it uninstalled which is another $100.00. SO i crossed my fingers and headed home while listening to the CD player, plugging in a address for the GPS, it began to flicker out of control. The CD player started make noise like a time bomb and things started coming on the display like "loading" & "open" i'm like this is some "BULL%#@*". When i made a phone call through the bluetooth i heard some interference as i increased my speed from the motor. By the time i get home i am pissed,I tried to contact KOOLERTRON and informed them of the situation. Some women tried to explain through a text messages of what i should do to correct the problem. She mispelled words to the point that i just wanted to be compensated for the radio & installation. She told me that they want compensate me for ONLY the radio. I am going to lose out on the install, uninstall & shipping this "BULL#@*% back to them. Please if you read my review trust me DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT BUY THIS BULLCRAP!!!!

5Great HU unless you're into gimmicks and toys or think Bose is HiFi...
    By GoBoSox
OK. Past review of my Kenwood DDX8120 shows that I was MISERABLE with that hunkajunk that took a dirt nap after less than three years. Swore off Kenwood for life. Replaced the burned out technotrash 8120 with an Alpine INA-W910 and the heartache began anew. Horrible Alpine navi. Nanny warnings before every attempt to change something while driving. Push emergency brake, engage brake, release emergency brake, release brake. Sheer Alpine torture. Then, after skipping a couple generations of Kenwood navis, I finally relented and looked into the 9990HD. Glad I did.GUI is exponentially faster. Iconography is intuitive and slick. The Garmin is...well, a Garmin. So, here's a breakdown of the pros and cons as I see them after having played with this unit a bit.Pros:Not a Bose POSScreamingly fast GUIA2DP blu-tooth streaming so I can hardwire my iTouch for optimal sound for my audio library and use blu-tooth to stream my beloved WEEI sports radio meatheads from BostonVirtually INSTANT!!! rear camera usability - this unit does not need to fully boot before the rear cam comes on - AWESOME!!!Split screen navi so you can switch/control your audio sources while still seeing the map on your GUI...AND use your backup camera while driving to catch a glimpse of the punks riding your rear bumperTons of options for customizing your sound (I've got Diamond Audio S600s components in front driven by a JL Audio 300/4 bridged to 150 rms per speaker and a JL Audio 10W6V2 sub driven by a JL Audio 250/1 dedicated amp so this system ROCKS!)Super categorization of songs for quick recallNo adverts for the free lifetime trafficCons:GPS screen has a very annoying menu at the bottom that I haven't been able to hide that takes up valuable real estate on the GUINo ability yet found to alter the color/tone of the map layout (very drab, boring gray color as opposed to my previous Kenwood that used a fleshtone color)Still a comparatively slow boot-up time (Alpine booted several seconds faster)No 3-d buildings (while the city I live in renders this virtually moot, the list price for this unit belies the decision to remove this from its offerings)Very limited voice recognition on this model (none for navi or music...just for the phone)Conclusion:Kenwood removed some functionality from this unit that past lifecycles included. Gone are 3-d building and comprehensive voice commands. Gone are some gimmicks like checking stocks and seeing weather maps on-screen (yes the DDX-8120 did both). But what Kenwood did do is soothe the soul of the mature audiophile who still has the hankering to rock the sedan once in awhile. The GUI is much more refined and responsive. Instead of flames breathing exhaust fumes on its GUI, this unit is stable with a layout that conveys elegance. I won't hesitate to say this is likely the best overall HU out there. While it may not have the fanboy features that appeal to those still living with their parents or whose stereos exceed their annual net, it is a rock solid unit.Kudos, Kenwood. You won me back.++++++++++++++++++++++UPDATED REVIEW+++++++++++++++++++++++++++Well, it seems I spoke too soon. Shortly after this review, I went back to the authorized dealer that installed it, had an amp installed, and went to pick my car up. Turned the key, the Kenwood splash screen opened up, then nothing. Bricked. The HU kept cycling and cycling and cycling. Installer pulled the HU after testing the fuse box and tried resetting the HU. He then gave up and called Kenwood. Customer Service at Kenwood said it sounded like a firmware issue and to send it back. I returned it and ordered another identical unit thinking maybe I just got a lemon. Over on a Kenwood forum, someone else reported the exact same issue. My fingers are crossed. After the disaster of my first Kenwood, the DDX812, I sheepishly went back to Kenwood after my Alpine 910 turned out to be junk. I hope I've had my last issue with Kenwood. If this one buys the farm, not sure who to trust anymore.

5A GREAT UNIT WITH A TON OF FEATURES!
    By A Techy Guy
I've had this unit for about a week now in my 2012 Dodge Challenger and I must say I am very impressed. Pioneer has got nothing on Kenwood! I have heard of the previous generation models being sluggishly slow but this is not the case at all with these new units. The processor has been upgraded and it shows! When I first bought the unit it came with firmware 1.2, it was fast but after I upgraded to 1.5 the functions are almost instantaneous. The GPS is very good considering its basically a Garmin unit built right in. It has all the same features and quality you would come to expect from a Garmin. I added an addition backup camera and it looks great on screen. The resolution of the screen is amazing and videos from IPOD and DVD look great. It plays pretty much every format of video Ive tried so far (.avi,.mp4,.mkv etc). Pandora works flawlessly and it is very nice to be able to control it completely from the head unit instead of fumbling with it on your phone( with the Kenwood iPod cable). There is also a usb dongle that you can use for play media from usb storage. Now for the sound, the ability to tweak the sound to your liking is incredible. There is a 13 band EQ with not only zone control but a highway setting that is meant to drown out "road noise". HD radio sounds great as well as Ipod and cds. The only thing I'm a little disappointed with is the Sirius XM sound quality but that seems to be an issue with Sirius since they merged with XM. All in all I am extremely happy I chose this unit!

    5Fantastic Head Unit
    By adrockthemc
After doing tons and tons of research I finally settled on the Kenwood DNX9990HD and am glad I did. I had contemplated purchasing the previous year's model but did not due to complaints of Operating System lag. This unit has zero lag and boots up quickly. The sound quality is amazing on this thing and it has so many tuning options that you can pretty much do away with any external processor. The Garmin GPS feature is all you would expect from Garmin and not a sub-par knockoff program used by other companies that will not be mentioned. I haven't used the AHA radio feature so I cannot speak to that but the Pandora is nice. It has built in HD radio which dramatically enhances the local radio stations. All in all a great unit that I highly recommend to anyone looking for the best in vehicle entertainment. I don't like that you need an extra cable to connect your iPod. This cable connects to the aux in on the back and to the usb dongle attached. I think that it uses standard stereo out and the usb only for power/charging. It would be nice if i could use the DAC's in the Kenwood to produce the sound as opposed to the one built in to the iPod. I think it would sound much nicer. Since I mostly use the Bluetooth audio this is a minor gripe. The Good:Tons of sound enhancement features including space enhancers, a 16 band graphic eq, staging options, and detailed crossover control just to startGreat GPS function from GarminBluetooth audio sounds amazing. Good quality callsQuick responsive touchscreen interface that has none of the bugs its predecessor had.The ConsRequires extra cable for iPod connectivity.XM tuner made for this unit has sound quality issuesNo optical out.Only 16 band eq. the standard 31 would be a nice enhancement or parametric eq

    5Well worth the money
    By Blue collar man!
I ordered the 9.3 inch with the navigation. I am doing everything but the TV. I love this stereo. I am able to play songs via the bluetooth option on My Ipod. Just sync the two together and there you go. I did order the IC-3 cable to use my Ipod, but now after having this unit for a few months I realize that I do not need it other than charging my Ipod while the stereo plays. I also purchased the back up camera system with it, great buy for only 13 bucks. I have not used the AV option as of yet but I do know that you can hook up a game system and view it in the AV in screen. U do not have to install a microphone with this system either. There is a mic already installed in the face of the stereo. The sound quality is really good as well. The music does stop playing when you are on the phone. By the way I installed this in a 2003 Dodge Ram Regular cab. I am pushing two 10 inch pioneer speakers with one 2000 watt amp bridged. Before I installed this system I could not tell you what any of that last sentence meant. I am Cop by trade with little to know stereo knowledge. I was able to do the install by myself but lucky for me I have great friends that are always stopping by that had the knowledge and were willing to help. Other than that I learned from YOUTUBE how to install this system and take my dash out. I think that I will post a video on youtube myself at RelaxBez on youtube.com

    5Good but...
    By Pookie Jones
The screen is huge... so huge that it did not fit my 1996 GMC Jimmy. Due to the design of the Jimmy Truck the radio does not fit without cutting or altering the Truck's Dash.. The Trucks gear shift (steering column) prevented proper installation. I like the radio but it just didnt fit my truck's dash

    5Correction to M.Martins review
    By HLS811
I also have this radio and think its great.. very easy to use and looks awesome.. Martins wrote in his review "and all the streets are pre-programmed, any updates come straight from Garmin via satellite, " - thats NOT true. Software updates need to be downloaded from Garmins website and burned to a CD and copied over. Map updates are usually done yearly and must be purchased (for $140) from Garmin (or another authorized re-seller) - they are NOT free and are NOT sent straight from a satellite. It doesn't change how good this radio is, but I just wanted to make sure no one was basing their purchase on an incorrect statement.

    3good product, some flaws
    By RPG
The main advantages of this unit over similar units are (i) nav data not DVD-based or hard-disk-based, everything is on flash memory; (ii) name-brand nav (Garmin) and name-brand bluetooth add-on (Parrot), unlike off-brand hardware/firmware on other competing units; (iii) no retractable screen so fewer moving parts to fail.Basically this is a very good and useful unit. The nav is well-designed and works well. I do have some complaints:(a) Even though everything is in flash memory, startup is slow. You will be halfway down the block before the nav is ready, and two blocks away before the bluetooth unit has paired with your phone. I have been told that competing units are even slower, so maybe this is an improvement, but technology still has a ways to go. Certainly no reason for pairing to take this long, my old radio paired almost instantly.(b) Awful interface (except the Garmin part, which is fine):--The front panel buttons are completely non-intuitive; try figuring out how to turn the whole thing off and on, or how to turn off the radio playing in the background when using the nav. You can get used to it, but it's inelegant to say the least, and if you lend your car to someone, they'll never figure it out.--The onscreen menus are a complete jumble, and the manual is incomprehensible. (I consider myself to be technically savvy; I installed the system myself.)--The mp3 menu is awful, for example you can see tracks sorted by album or artist, but you just have to know how to do it because it is far from obvious. You need to push a button mysteriously marked PLIST. You have to do it again each time you start the car.--The Bluetooth interface is poorly designed, for example you can choose a number by voice commands, but you can't actually voice dial...you have to look at the screen and touch the 'dial' button to complete the dialing process.(c) If disconnected from the battery, all the settings are lost, and this can cause more problems than just loss of radio presets. I realize that after installation the unit shouldn't normally lose power, but if you take it in for service and they disconnect and reconnect the battery, the backup camera (add-on) stops working!I thought they cut the cable somehow, but actually the default setting of the Kenwood DNX5120 is to ignore the backup voltage signal. You have to go in and change the setting back. (There is a way to save the settings in nonvolatile memory and restore them, but this has to be done manually every time...why not save all settings in flash memory automatically?)

    5Awesome Stereo
    By RobDog
Kenwood DNX5120I June 5, 2008, I purchased and had Platinum Audio in Corona, California install my DNX5120. I have had Sony, Alpine, and Kenwood stereos prior and have experimented with iPod connections to these stereos. The stereo's killed two of my iPods. The DNX5120 broke all the rules and really exceeded my expectations as far as the iPod interface. The integration is clean, easy to understand, and faster to use than the iPod itself. Here is an example. I have countless artists on my iPod. Using the scroll wheel it take time to scroll through the artist until letters come up and to be honest with you, it takes me a least two tries to land on the right letter. Using the DNX5120, I can scroll down by multiple artist and even click on slide bar to go half the way down my list or all the way down. All this at the speed of just pressing button and not waiting for the iPod or the stereo to catch up.The navigation is dummy proof. I have used the BMW, Toyota, Magellan, Tom Tom, and Honda navigation and the DNX5120 blows them out of the water. It does not get any easier than this. I have read that it takes a long time to start up. I don't see that problem. Once I start my vehicle, the Kenwood screen appears for about 5 seconds and I am off to the races. After all, it is not good for the vehicle if you start and immediately drive.I don't have any complaints about the stereo. Here are some things I really like;* Knob for volume. It feel sturdy and I like touching the screen less than I have too* Clean font, easy to read* Quick/easy/instant access from user interface to navigation and back* Easy to understand hierarchy of menu* Garmin Nav. is easy to use and easy to upgrade* No need for second DVD box for nav.* Excellent GPS signal quality* Ability to watch iPod movies on screen* USB connection...I like putting my on photo as a backgroundThe bottom line is the shop did an outstanding job the installation and the DNX5120 works better than what I had expected. When you put this stereo in perspective, it is combining a tuner, a DVD player, an audio iPod, a video ipod, XM, and CD/MP3 player together into one unit with none to little glitches. And if you are an Apple fan like myself, this works perfectly with the iPod.That is my two cents and five out of five stars......

4My life with Appradio using iPhone 4s and/or Galaxy S3
    By Jose Paez
hello everybody,I'd like to thank you for taking few minutes of your time to read this review. I hope you find it helpful :)First of all, my review if from an enthusiast point of view and might be a little bit technical but my intention is to give you all guidelines before you buy. To know what to expect when you're expecting (the appradio of course ;)). BTW, I'm a mac user so here are some very few tips to make your life easier and save lot of time guessing.Items used on this installation:- Pioneer SPH-DA100 AppRadio Car Stereo with iPhone 4 App Control and 7.0" Capacitive Touch- The software running on the appradio is version 8.17 (the latest)- Pioneer CDAH200C Appradio Adapter Kit For Android- Metra 70-1771 1989-2005 Ford/lincoln/nissan Cd Player Into Car Wire Harness- Factory unlocked iPhone 4s, Appradio applications, standard IoS 6.x software.- Factory unlocked Samsung Galaxy S3 (i9300) using rooted Jelly Bean, ARliberator, Tasker, Carhome Ultra, Triangle Away software.- Samsung EPL-FU10BEBSTA HDTV Adapter TIP (5 to 11 Pin Converter) - Retail Packaging - BlackWhat is in the box:- Appradio 2 headunit- Wiring harness- GPS Antenna which is magnetic and it includes an auto adhesive metallic plate which can be placed on the top of your dashboard to make the installation a breeze.- USB/iPhone cable. this is an 2 in 1 cable, not two cables which is very clever. At a glance:Screen quality: 5 starsLook and feel: 5 starsOverall quality: 5 starsHandsfree quality: 100 stars (sorry amazon, i know your scale is 5 but... this thing is that good)Appmode: 4 starsEasy to use appmode: 4 starsWarnings: 2 starsNow the loooong story :)Appradio 2 update process:The reason i named the iPhone cable an USB/iPhone cable is because it has two cables going out of the iPhone connector, my guess is one of them transports the audio signals and the other one is the usb control. The USB control side of the cable has a division where you can put a USB pendrive to perform the update process. Take into account, if you leave this portion of the cable hiding (i did) you're going to face some problems when trying to update.Updating is very easy, just download the single file from the Pionner web site, uncompress it on a empty pendrive, plug it in your appradio using the described (see added photos to the product page) port and it simply asks you if you want to update, once confirmed, it begins to update beeping everytime it feels to, so don't worry about the beeps. Mac users beware, mac os adds some silly files on the pendrive so the appradio does not recognizes the file. Just copy the file using a windows computer and you're done.So... how does it works with an iPhone 4s?It works reasonably well, just plug it in your iPhone 30 pin connector, then touch the apps icon on your screen, let the appradio know you're not crazy enough to drive while watching Harry Potter, then let the iPhone know you allow the connection and after all the prohibitions/limitations, there you are... now you can use all your appradio ready applications with also a reasonable reliability. If you use the music app on the appmode environment, you can use Waze or whatever appradio app you like.I particularly like to use the PLX Devices 'PLX Kiwi 2 Wifi' Car to Smartphone Connection connector with dashcommand so you can see the real-time data on your screen... this is awesome!, another application i do like using appradio is Waze, it is very funny and while with my wife, she reports traffic jams so we can earn some points that really gives you absolutely no real benefit whatsoever but keeps you entertained while on a massive traffic jam.One personal note about all the warning screens and handbrake signaing and the lot:We, the consumers are reasonably smart people, at least smart enough to know if we keep watching movies while driving and hit the tree, we're going to hurt ourselves, hurt the tree and wreck the car. If we hit another car we can be liable for the damage to the other car and for the possible injuries to other people... there are laws for all of this. Don't you think a warning message everytime you try to do anything when driving while annoying, is a bit of stupid? I mean, don't play videos while on the go and that's it but all the time receiving a warning? really?Ok, now back to the regular service... we have arrived to the android section of the review... and if you're like me, you might have a lot of questions without answers... I still do but I'll try to give you the few answers I have but first, let me tell you, this is my first Android phone and my first appradio so please forgive me if I go to thing that may appear too obvious to experienced android users. The first problem pioneer faces with android devices is, because android unlike IOS devices comes from different makers, they do have different ways to connect basically, MHL connectors and HMDI connectors. MHL is a micro USB connector with embedded HDMI so here's the thing, If your android compatible phone uses HDMI connector, you don't really need the android kit, what you'll need is an hdmi cable with one normal HDMI connector to the back of your appradio and an micro USB power source with 1000 mah or more to keep your phone alive. If you have a compatible MHL connector phone, you can go with the pioneer kit which includes the HDMI cable, the USB power source with the USB to Micro USB cable and a 5 pin MHL converter. This convertes receives the HDMI cable and the power and delivers everything on a single MHL cable to your phone. The main difference between the iPhone and android standard behavior is the android phones sends control signaling like touches to the screen using Bluetooth, don't worry, you can still use BT for handsfree calling which by the way is nothing less than espectacular and maybe your OBD II BT which is a lot cheaper than the PLX Kiwi and the Torque app which is also a lot cheaper than the dashcommand app so connecting the android phone needs a little bit more interaction from the user. After connected, it works and feels just like the iPhone does. But wait... if you have a Galaxy S3 phone, you're going to need the described 11 to 5 pin adapter which despite the fact is Samsung original, doesn't work propperly... the video starts to flick whenever it feels to, you're going to loose the connection and you're going to be VERY frustrated so you can opt for different ways to connect your phone other than the android kit Pioneer sells. I'm not going to be any more critic about the kit because, to be fair, Galaxy S3 is NOT on the Pioneer's phone compatibility matrix.Galaxy S3 Connection option 1:This is by very far away and beyond, the best choice and if I knew this before, I could've saved some money, you can buy a good quality not too long hdmi cable, and usb power source and Samsung EAD-T10JDEGSTA WI-FI All-Share Cast HUB - Data Cable - Retail Packaging - Black so now you can connect your phone completely wireless using Wi-Fi and bluetooth. Just connect the all-share to the HDMI cable and to a power source and you're ready to go... it gives you the screen mirroring while bluetooth gives you the touch. Please beware I've only tested it using ARliberator, not appradio app so your mileage may vary (rooted phones please read further).Galaxy S3 Connection option 2:Here you can replace the MHL cable from the Pioneer kit with the Adapter HDMI EPL 3FHU for Samsung Galaxy s3 but please, do yourself a favor... do not buy a cheap alternative... buy the original because you don't want to have the flickering and the snow and the frustration... my advice, don't go cheap with this. Just plug the HDMI cable and the powered micro USB to one side, the phone to the other side and you're done.ARLiberator:In case you don't know, you can buy for $29 in google play store, an application named ARLiberator. What this app does is to give you total access to your phone from the appradio screen, in other words, you're going to have your phone in landscape mode in your appradio so you can use whatever app you like as long as it runs in your phone but to use ARliberator, you need to root your phone which may have some effect on your phone's warranty so please beware.I have tested the ARLiberator and found that you can have an app named carhome ultra which gives you a car friendly home screen while adding navigational info.. give it a look if you will, then you might find the Tasker app of some use for automating the BT connection, the ARliberator run, the carhome ultra run when you plug the phone and to reverse all of that when you plug it off and must use the app Triangle away to put your flash counter to zero because all-share does not works on rooted phones.Torque app works only under ARliberator mode because it is not an appradio ready app while Dashcommand is and unlike the IOS version, you can try it before buying using the free version.Final thoughts:- Does it really worth the effort to go ARliberator way? Yes... it does... Only if you want to have a smart head unit instead of an iPhone/Android application head unit.- I had a Kenwood DDX419 In-Dash 2-DIN Head Unit Car Stereo which is VERY BAD... the hands free function was useless, the user interface came from a Commodore Vic 20 or a Sinclair ZX-81... So I can tell you... even without the Appmode, just for the Hands free function and the ipod capability with a 21st century interface... I would pay the premium... no doubt.. BTW, this one sounds better too :)- Don't root to cheat your cellular company... you want freedom? just pay for it.. you can always buy an unlocked version of about any phone.- Technology company... are you listening? or just attending to meetings filling out spreadsheets just to justify your mere existence? How hard can it be to understand the customers wants smart head units on their cars? Is it too difficult to build an android based head-unit that might connect to your phone for internet acces either using Wi-fi hotspot or even the bluetooth so we can save all the hassle of doing all of this? Regulations? you can put your dozen of warning screens we do have right now anyway...and limit the video playback for the dumb to not to hit the tree.. I mean... really? Marketing... wake up before Apple creates the iCar and then sue you all for being followers....Sorry for the long read and some strong opinions but I really do hope it helps you... While I tahnk all the forums writers i've rad to understand all of this after i bought the appradio.Regards,JP

    3Has great potential (NO A2DP)

At first glance this Unit is very impressive. 7" touch screen looks great. I have a 2006 Scion Xb and a Samsung Galaxy SII. This is my first unit I've installed and the instructions were easy to understand and the installation went smooth. I used Crutchfield to find out what i needed for the install and bought it from Amazon and saved 70$. I didn't want to spend 100$ for the CD-AH200C Android cable adapter so I bought a Menotek Micro USB to HDMI MHL Adapter IMPROVED WITH RCP and a regular HDMI cable.(Don't use an HDMI cable with thick ends it wont fit in the back of the unit.) I then used a Micro USB car adapter to power the Menotek adapter. God news! It worked. Bad News... it doesn't charge when plugged in. I'm not taking a star off for this because this was just a work around to try and save money. I'll wait for the price to lower on the CD-AH200C and buy that later.Once I got the Bluetooth setup and the app installed I was able to navigate the menu easily. Pandora worked with no problems and the Google maps was smooth all from the head unit. The appradio app is not all that great for android right now with 2 apps to download. I'm sure that will change in time, i just wished they would have put more out at release. Something that i really wanted it to do was easily stream music from my Google music library. You have to exit out of the appradio app by pressing home on your phone. This shows your phone on screen with all your apps. When you do this though you can't use the head unit to navigate the phone which defeats the purpose of the 7" touch screen. There's why its not a 5 star. My next test was to disconnect the Micro USB and use the Bluetooth to stream the music from Google Music. No Dice. Calling from the phone worked though with no problems. I was hoping I could stream music (A2DP) from the phone without having to hook it up to the Micro USB(MHL) adapter. Minus another star.I hooked my apple New iPad (3rd gen) and things certainly were easier to use and setup. I haven't had a chance to spend to much time with it but streaming Bluetooth didn't work either. There is potential in this unit it just needs some updates and I will then update this review as well when I get the CD-AH200C and things get sorted out. If you can get past some of the flaws its a solid unit.

    4Off to a good start

Just finished installing this unit today. It's definitely off to a good start. The unit doesn't have the ability to stream A2DP and no aux-input so if you don't have an Android or iOS device, be warned. For people who owned the original Pioneer AppRadio, here are the differences in the 2:- Much faster bootup (3-6 seconds)- Better iPod compatibility (Nano, Classic)- Auto-dimmer when headlights are on- Screen On/Off button- Dedicated Pandora button- Better iOS/iPod line-out audio quality- Significantly improved cable quality (longer and much less flimsy)- Smaller more streamlined GPS receiver- Significantly better bluetooth audio quality and interface for calls- Better interface for radio
