4Almost perfect
By Tech and Car Geek
The NX602 is a pretty darn good system I only have a few gripes. The touch screen is very responsive; you can drag things around like you do on a smart phone. Bluetooth audio streaming works great, but with my Evo I don't get the track information like you do with an Ipod. The Bluetooth telephone option works really well; whenever I'm having a conversation I have to constantly remind people that they're on speaker phone. That's how great the internal mic works on this thing. Also, you can upload all of your phone contacts including missed/dialed/received calls. The navigation system is pretty amazing. The recalculation of routes happens almost instantaneously a little too quickly for my taste though. There is a day and night view, which changes automatically, since the system knows when the sun is due to set and rise. You can choose from a multitude of route guidance voices some with British accents, over 20 different types of vehicles and so on. Customizing this system to your liking won't be a problem. Another thing I like - if you are watching a DVD (illegal but you know how that goes) the navigation system well briefly interrupt your movie to show the next set of turns and then it will go back to the movie without you having to manually do anything. Griping time: the screen can really get washed out from the sun. Another minor annoyance for some reason this system well forget your music settings for some weird reason, so I always find myself double checking my settings every time I start my car. Also, I cannot figure out how and the hell to update the navigation system. I'm pretty tech savvy and I'm sure I will figure it out sooner or later, but I have feeling you need a masters degree in computer science to get it working right. Overall, I would take the NX602 over any system in the market right now.

5Great unit!
By Jason
Bluetooth works well with good sound quality. The GPS is accurate and reasonably fast when it comes to loading maps. It has a feature that is on by default that tells you when you are going over the speed limit, but that can be disabled in the gps settings. Everything it does, it does, very, very well. I'd say that this unit is worth every penny! As far as gripes go, setting favorite radio stations can sometimes be a little annoying, particularly when setting the favorites on the bottom of the screen near the back arrow. Be careful where you point on the touch screen. It also comes with a control if you don't like touch screens.

1Mixed Bag - Defective UI
By Jim C Ferguson
Final Update:Returned the NX602 as a defective product. To summarize, power up functionality is intermittent. GUI behavior is non-functional in some areas and misprogrammed in others.Specifically, iPod GUI functionality malfunctions and will not play from playlists, albums, songs, genre or any other category except a Clarion Playback list, search doesn't work and scroll by alphabet doesn't work past the letter "D".When using music stored on an SD card, it doesn't read all folders or songs, search doesn't work, scroll by alphabet doesn't work past the letter "D".When attempt to find a contact in the contact list imported from a linked phone, search doesn't work and scroll by alphabet doesn't work past the letter "D".It seems they have used the same defective API throughout the OS.Clarion has no customer support other than through dealers. The dealer I talked to was discontinuing the line because of the same problems I encountered.I had a dealer install a Pioneer AVH-8400BD. Although it doesn't have GPS, all of the audio and interfaces work as you would expect and many of them are very nicely designed from a human interface perspective as well as functionally.Update 1:After two weeks, I'm getting close to returning it.The good: the radio, the GPS, the disc player with CDs. The jury's still out on DVD as I haven't gotten the parking brake bypass to work so the DVD player doesn't work. The audio plays, though. The acceptable: the UI, the sound quality. The overall quality of the unit is good. The UI is generally OK, although anytime you navigate to a previous screen that was a list of songs or albums, it goes to the bottom of the list. Weird. The unacceptable: the iPod interface, the SD interface, the documentation, the documentation for upgrading the maps. The unknown: Bluetooth audio, the Bluetooth phone interface in actual use, the satellite and HD radio interfaces.Original post:I purchased a kit of things to support the installation in my 2007 Tacoma; the head unit, mounting bezel, cables, parking brake override, steering column interface and backup video.I have updated the firmware/software from the Clarion website. Some of the following is still work in-progress, but here's what I've found so far.The iPod interface. I have a sizable music collection, ~10,000 songs, on an iPod classic with all songs down-sampled to fit. The iPod support is essentially unusable. While it lists the songs, playlists, albums and artists, the search doesn't work at all, any attempt to navigate to a desired song or album and attempting to play it results in the system reverting to it's own Playlist that seems to be songs organized by artist. It always reverts to the top of that list no matter what is selected. I intend to load a significantly smaller list of music to see if this is a memory issue in the head unit. The SD interface. I copied about 20GB of music (lossless format) directly from my iTunes library to an SD card. It took about 5 minutes for it to read the card. The result was that it simply didn't display most of the artists on the SD card. I created folders by the alphabet, A-B, C-F, etc. and moved the artist folders into that. It still dropped some artists. There is no apparent pattern as to what it drops. I am going on the premise that there is some limitation to the number of folders and the length of the folder names. This is work in progress. The documentation provides no clue if there are limitations in the hardware for number of songs supported, etc.Upgrading the Maps. Wow. This is really poorly done. You are directed to the Naviextras website when you register the system with Clarion. To update the maps, you must install an app that requires Windows XP or 7, preferably 32bit Windows. As I have a Mac, this could be somewhat problematic except I also use Parallells with a Windows 7 virtual machine. On installing the app into the VM running Windows 7, on startup the app only generated an error message. After a search for the meaning of the message, it turns out that an old version of the C++ runtime files from 2005 must be installed (Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)). There is no documentation of this that I could find anywhere at the Clarion websites. After completing the installation, the app starts, but will do nothing until you pull the micro SD card out of the head unit and connect it to the computer. You must close the app and start it with the uSD card connected, login with the user account you created when you registered the head unit and you only then can download the file updates. BTW, it recommends backing up the map card, which I consider a pretty good idea. Very little of this is documented.Connecting the phone was easy, but I haven't used it yet, so don't know how well it works. The Koolertron backup camera is certainly cheap enough, but the connection diagram is useless (as posted elsewhere). It seems simple enough but mine still doesn't work. More troubleIshooting ahead. Update: Found a bad connection on the power connection at the camera. It works well. The Metra Axxess interface kit is exceedingly well documented but the autosensing did not work. I ran out of time to go through the manual programming steps on installation day, so that remains to be done. The MicroBypass parking brake bypass doesn't work (I got the generic one) although connected as advised in the documentation. Didn't find the Clarion-specific model on Amazon until after my purchase. More troubleshooting. The Scosche dash mount is made well enough and fits, but the color matches only the hazard switch. It doesn't match anything else on the dashboard. If you're looking for a factory-look, look elsewhere.Other installation notes: There is barely enough room for the wiring behind the head unit. It is a TIGHT fit. I'm fairly experienced at car radio installations. This one took all day and I didn't finish. Fishing the backup video cable and the GPS sensor cable were some of the most time consuming. And FWIW, the head unit runs embedded Windows. During my attempts to get an SD card to read, it generated an application error with the classic Windows UI.I have experienced some bugs on startup. These primarily occur if I turned the engine off without first turning the unit off. Sometimes the volume control doesn't work. Sometimes it displays "No Signal" with no indication of what signal it's missing.Summary: I'm thinking most people wouldn't tolerate what I've dealt with so far and would have sent it back a week ago. I'm in the technology business and so there is part of me that isn't going to be beaten by the thing, but overall, it;s been a pretty frustrating experience. Maybe 2 stars is too generous.Koolertron Rear View License Plate Backup CMOS CameraMetra Axxess ASWC Universal Steering Wheel Control Interface (Black)MicroBypass Parking Brake Override BypassScosche TA2053S9B ISO Double Din Installation Kit for 2009 Toyota Tacoma -Silver
