    4Very Happy So Far
    By M. Maney
I had the AV60BT installed three weeks ago in a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe, replacing the factory Infinity head unit. I did not replace the factory amplifier or any of the nine factory speakers. Although I have considerable installation experience, I had a local dealer do this one (simply did not have the time). I'm sure I'll discover more but for now here are a few thoughts / comments for those thinking about the JVC AV line.ComparisonsI pretty much looked at all of the brands (Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer, Sony, Clarion) within my the price range (roughly less than $500 installed). Other than decent sound, Bluetooth, USB input (MP3 256kbps minimum), double-DIN, some equalization control, and decent looks, I wasn't really looking for anything out of the ordinary. Since I was using my factory amplifier, power wasn't a big issue but almost all of the brands had 50 watts X 4 anyway. All of the above brands made the cut although some reviewed better than others. Mostly the complaints were that the menu systems were to cumbersome while driving.Once I added "touch screen" control to the mix, all but the Kenwood & JVC dropped out due to price. Both of these also handle DVD's and will play movies although I don't have a need for those functions. The Kenwood & JVC are pretty much identical, differing mainly because of the JVC's day/night lighting control enhancements and the button look on the front. The price was roughly equal via the dealer. If you're a Kenwood fan, you might check out that model.LikesSound - Great sound and the increased output pre-out voltage is a big improvement over the factory unit. In all fairness, the factory Infinity unit (really a Delphi) didn't sound "bad" but the JVC is really at another level.Equalization - A lot of flexibility with both music-type presets and individual frequency band adjustments. Also subwoofer control and front/rear/side balancing.Bluetooth - I use mine with a Motorola Droid 3 Android phone and it paired up without any issues at all. I've seen complaints about "slow connections" but mine pairs with 5 seconds. I had the supplied microphone mounted high on the driver-side "A" Pillar (the window/windshield post). Incoming voice quality is great with Outgoing quality at pretty good. There is a slight hollowness on the called person end, probably because I am calling from a big metal box. People I've called say they can tell I'm in the car, but that the sound quality is fine. When a call comes in the unit mutes the radio and the Phonebook Info appears on the screen with a big red answer button. Press it and you're connected. There are a number of options for answering & hanging up (auto, etc.).Text Message Alert and ringtone pass-through are also great. It doesn't display the text message (dangerous) but it tells you you've got one.Being able to easily load my Phonebook into the unit is nice. When a call comes in the picture of the caller is displayed - or just the phone number if they are not in your address book.Streaming music (or Pandora if you have an iPhone) is also seamless. With all the music I have loaded on USB Flash drives I really don't have a need for it but I tried it and it works very well and sounds great.Tuner/Radio - Very easy to setup and has all the regular features (seek/scan, 18 FM and 6 AM presets, auto/manual preset loading, RDS & Travel Alerts).USB (MP3/WMA) - Exactly what I wanted. I loaded around 500 MP3's (256kbps) on a small flash drive for testing. The JVC has a rear USB port so I had the plug-in adapter run to the glove box where it's out of sight (nice, nothing sticking out the front panel).MP3 navigation is great. I have mine organized by folder (Artist, Songs). You can also throw Album into the mix if you like. The playing readout shows Album Artwork, Artist, Album, and Song. The usual Forward, Back, Pause, Random, Shuffle functions are there. The search readout is a 6-line display X 2 with fairly large (readable) font. Left side is Folder, Right side is Contents. Both have up & down scroll bars. In my case, the left box shows Artists and when an artist is highlighted, the Left side box shows Songs. Just touch it to play it. Much simpler than some of the other units I looked at.Display - Exceptional. Very clear with a number of options (content, colors, brightness). I find it very readable and I live in a pretty bright state (Florida). The touch sensitivity is like a cell phone and all the frequently used "buttons" are large enough to hit while driving. The menu button is lower left (perfect) so you can just hit Menu, then Tuner (or USB, etc.), as is the Back button which is very handy. There is also a dedicated Source button for cycling through but using the touch display for direct access is so much quicker.One-touch access to the equalizer settings without going through menus.A dedicated Volume knob even through you can use Swype-type gestures if you like. A dedicated Volume knob is so handy. Touch screen up/down volume controls can be really flakey, and not something I like to screw with while driving. The unit will accept a steering wheel control adapter if you car has wheel mounted audio controls. I have not added that yet but may in the future. For now, the display is within arm's reach and easy to navigate so it's not a pressing need.NitpicksThere always has to be something to complain about. There isn't much I've found yet but since the unit is firmware upgradeable via USB, maybe JVC will solve these few problems for me.1. When listening to the radio, the display will occasionally "switch" to the Equalizer display. This is without my hand being near the screen. It does not happen when playing MP3's or CD/DVD's. The music doesn't stop. Touching the Back button takes care of it so it's not a huge deal.2. There are two radio display screen options(user selectable). One shows 6 preset squares (P1 - P6), and the other shows 6 larger ovals with the radio frequency in each (like 88.5 or 104.1). I prefer the ovals as I'm sure most people would. Unfortunately, when you're listening to a station that has RDS (Radio Data Service?), the text string sent out by the station scrolls in the little oval and replaces the frequency being displayed. Usually it's something like "Rock 105" or "WKRP" but occasionally it can be song lyrics. It's a station choice, not JVC's. Very clever but a pain in the butt if you know your local stations by their frequency. I have been unable to find a JVC menu selection to turn off RDS. Until then I will just use the P1-P6 display.3. USB loading could be a little quicker. This really is a nitpick probably because the unit has to load at least 6 folders of data before it can present the display. It's only 5 - 6 seconds and I suppose the Album Art isn't helping. Maybe I just need to get over it. Changing songs and folders is pretty quick but not instantaneous - again, maybe the Art or the 256kbps files. The unit itself takes 3 - 4 seconds to "power up" when the car is started. I guess that's the price you pay for graphic displays, software loading, etc.4. A lot of the added features on the JVC are iPhone specific (Apps, Pandora). JVC (and almost all of the others) need to recognize that 105 million Android phones shipped in the 2nd quarter of 2012 alone. Android currently has 68% of the global Smartphone market. That's a lot of people to ignore. In summary, if you need a great replacement for your stock factory radio, and you like Bluetooth and Touch screen displays, I don't think you will find a better or more affordable unit to buy (I couldn't). Even with a few flaws (plus whatever else I discover), I'm very happy with the purchase.

5Update Firmware As Soon as you purchase...
    By Zach Frunningham
I paid $280 shipped from an online retailer but would have been comfortable paying MSRP for the quality of the product. I like my trusty Garmin so NAV isn't at all necessary. My Verizon phones were unusable over Bluetooth before the update, I could barely be heard on the other line, echos, static, a total failure. After the firmware update, I had to turn down the mic volume to 1 because I was too loud - clear no echos - night and day.FYI Nissan Pathfinder, microphone mounted on behind the steering wheel, great results. One quirky annoying part is if you connect your iPhone while the head unit is running it automatically starts playing your library - terrible oversight here especially if you just want to charge your phone while listening to the radio you have to manually switch it back. Maybe they'll fix that in the next update. The color options are great, although I just went with white rather than matching one of the many different greens in my Pathfinder. The preouts paired with my Bose adapter brought my muddy sounding speakers to life - leaps and bounds above my stock Bose head unit.Grounded the parking brake wire so I can watch Netflix in terrible traffic jams or parked - The screen clarity leaves a little to be desired but I didn't buy it to watch movies and the text is plenty clear. I don't think the JVC USB cord is at all worth the $70, I got mine on Amazon for ~$40, but I seriously doubt its OEM-ness because its a little finicky and not well made - also the iPhone gets very hot when in use for streaming movies, add a little sunlight in and it overheats and shuts off if not stowed away in a cooler place. Again I believe that may be the fault of a knock off KVUSB-30 or whatever the part number is. Go for the full price one if you demand the ability to watch video from your iPhone. If you just want charging capability and Pandora etc, pass on this add on. I'm just going to use the USB extension the KV-30 provides and use a regular iPod cord from now on.Pandora is great, fast and for some reason I never hear commercials when its connected. Can't beat that.Streaming bluetooth audio is clear, my iPhone always pairs right up - although I usually travel long distances and am always charging my iPhone. Blackberry doesn't seem to want to compete with the iPhone bluetooth so they are both seamlessly connected as advertised - however I haven't reattempted the 2 phones feature since updating the firmware today.Tune-In is a great free app - superior to HD Radio for the simple fact that the quality is the same yet you don't need a local signal and can listen to your favorite radio station or podcasts anywhere in the country while the album art is displayed on screen.5 stars based on price vs. value. I considered paying up to $700-$1,000 for a head unit originally but after using this for a month I have very little to complain about and way more money in my pocket.

    5Worth double
    By JP Custom Switch Controls
I purchased this unit for 2003 trailblazer. I bought the I phone cable seperatly. Without that cable or having an I phone this prob wouldn't be a purchase I would consider. That being saidPros integrationI'm able to use I phone to watch u tube videos, music videos, pandora shows the album cover and data. I also use motion x gps program from the I tunes store. This transforms my jvc into a nav that actually works pretty damn good. Actually may have one of the nicer looking maps I've seen on gps. And since it's an app it's upgradable. There was a hidden $25 cost there if I wanted to control motion x from the screen instead of using I phone. I purchased that but was not happy it was hidden cost. I also downloaded MOG on I phone. I can listen to any song I want when I want and even dl it immediately. I also installed a rear cam, soon as I shift to reverse my screen auto flips to my rear camera. Picture is great. The sound. It has 3 sets pre outs. The sub out is a single RCA. I use all sets of the pre outs and it sounds perfect. Its built in eq really allows some room for tuning. With frequency curves and able to adjust ft rear and sub levels and frez. I use this deck to control my focal speakers in the doors and a jl w7 in the back, and it just screams. I am defiantly a sound quality guy, and I'm extremely happy for a $300 deck. Here is what I don't like!No remote included!! I can't remember the last time I bought a deck that didn't come with remote. It has also crashed on me a couple times. Nothing serious though. The screen that I use to control sub gain while listening to a song is to close to those user eq's that are on decks. Sometimes I hit the wrong button and send the settings all over the place. Which at high volume has caused distortion. The blue tooth sounds good on my end, but people notice it right away, and say I sound a little funny. I don't use that function much, but I do like the mute for calls and showing them on the screen, and even presetting #'s in there.Overall. This is not a 1k deck, but I had an eclipse nav before this one, and this is defiantly the way to go. If your looking to pay 1/3 of the price and gain features, then it's the way to go. Just remember there are a few flaws like the blu tooth sound quality. I will update as I go. It's been installed 3 weeks now.It seems to crash more often, please see my reply below
