5Perfect Radio
By Kevin
Tried out the DNX9990HD for a couple weeks, and this puts that unit to shame.First of all, everything works! The pandora and aha radio functions are amazing! There are an amazing amount of ways to customize the audio. You can tune what type of speakers your car have, where sound should circulate, the type of car you have, how much space is in the car, and sports a 13 band equalizer. It is fairly simple to tune, just takes a little time. The Garmin navigation is totally redone and has the latest greatest. The car icon seems a little smaller than previous models, and you are no longer at the bottom of the icon. The map is more detailed and can have points of interest pop up while driving. The dual "real view" screen that pops up when merging or turning off on major highways is amazing. The start-up time is not that bad. I think it is around 30 seconds. However, music starts playing after 8-10 seconds and the rear camera works instantly. So if you back out of a driveway and have a rear camera, by the time you are out the navigation is working. GPS signal is instantly found when it pops up.All in all, this unit is amazing. I had the DNX9990HD for about 2 weeks and there were lots of little things that drove me crazy. Kenwood fixed everything and this is as close to a perfect unit possible. I spend lots of time in my car and I am still trying to find more places to go so I can play with the radio. This is what it is supposed to feel like after spending this much money on something.Bright screen at night was no problem to me.Pros:Screen size and resolution (movies look awesome), Audio tuning ability, Newest and Best Garmin software, Streaming music, Pandora and Aha Radio functions on head unit work seamlessly, Instant rear camera, Makes my music sound amazing on stock speakers. Totally customizable music.Cons:None for me. Start up time could be an issue if you don't have a rear camera. But I don't find it a problem. Screen brightness is not a problem for me. It has night colors for the map and the other screens have dark or black backgrounds. Last con is that it makes all other radios inferior. It does everything imaginable so you will constantly be underwhelmed by anyone else's radio.
